MAGDALENA RIDLEY, FOUNDING MEMBER

Magdalena is a lifelong resident of Roseland, and her child is entering 5th grade at Sheppard Elementary.  She is a law student and active community member, who has served on the Roseland Redevelopment Task Force, the North Bay Organizing Project Leadership Council, and the Community Action Partnership Board of Directors, and formerly worked with LandPaths on their urban farm and diverse outreach initiatives.  She was honored with the California Parks and Recreation Society's Champion of the Community award for 2011, and has received several merit-based scholarships to further her studies.  A founding member of RYC, she helped to begin and continues to participate with Bloco Rosa; led a group of high school students to gather oral histories of Latinos in Sonoma County, in collaboration with Listening for a Change and the Sonoma County Museum, for their Fronteras del Norte Exhibition; began the wildly successful (now transitioned to teacher-led) low-cost community zumba classes; and served for years as a program director liaison, helping with access to facilities and other forms of organizational support.  She knows first-hand the transformative power of community-led initiatives, which not only provide much-needed enrichment opportunities, but also are uniquely responsive to community needs, provide a foundation for positive social ties, model healthy behaviors, and develop leadership skills.
